The Reveal

Welcome to j.a.c & Honey! If you’ve been following me for a while or you’re on the email list, you already know how ready I am for this new start.

For those who are new here, my name is Jendayi Asha (pronounced jen-die-yee ah-sha) and I am officially revealing the name of my new brand which combines two big pieces of my journey: Jendayi Asha Creative and Honey Social.

Why the Merge?

When I think about it, merging my brands was inevitable. It wasn’t just about simplifying things (though I won’t lie, that’s a bonus)—it was about creating something that feels authentic to who I am and makes it easier to serve you. When it came to naming the brand, I wanted something that honors what we’ve built together and sets the tone for what’s next.

For years, Jendayi Asha Creative focused on custom branding and content creation, while Honey Social was the go-to resource for culturally rich stock content. Both were rooted in my love for helping women of color entrepreneurs bring their visions to life. But as I continued to grow personally and professionally, I realized that these two businesses weren’t separate at all—they were simply two sides of the same coin.

But more than that, running two businesses stretched me in ways that weren’t sustainable. I was managing two separate brands with overlapping missions, and at times, it felt like I was doing the most. And let’s be real—if I’m not practicing what I preach about clarity and focus, how can I truly guide others to build intentional brands?

This merger is about ease and alignment—bringing together everything I’ve learned, everything I’ve created, and everything I aspire to be into one cohesive brand. Now, with j.a.c & Honey, I can deliver the custom branding, stock content, operations support (more on that later) and creative consulting you need, all under one roof.

Why “j.a.c & Honey”?

While brainstorming names, I knew one thing for sure: brand recognition was non-negotiable. I wanted my Honey Social family to feel the connection to what we built together, and I needed my Jendayi Asha Creative day ones to know I’m still delivering the same amazing photography and branding services that you’ve come to trust. Keeping a piece of both was paramount—it honors where I’ve been and where I’m headed.

But that’s not all. The name holds even more meaning for me:

  • Warmth and Relatability: When I think of “j.a.c. & Honey,” it reminds me of a warm Jack Daniels whiskey. (And though I need to be reminded I’m an adult and I can drink an alcoholic beverage, I do enjoy the warmth of a good whiskey or scotch every now and then.) That warmth mirrors the relatability and kindness I always strive to bring to my interactions.

  • Family Connection: I went back and forth on whether I wanted the name to remind me of alcohol, but then I remembered that Jack Daniel is also the name of my late grandfather—a sweet serendipity that makes this name even more special.

  • A Nod to My Roots: “J.A.C.” are also my maiden name initials, taking me back to the girl I was when I first fell in love with photography. It’s a reminder of how far I’ve come and the passion that started it all.

Why Your Brand Name Matters

What I’ve learned during this process is that your brand name is more than just a label—it’s your first impression, your handshake, your story wrapped up in a few words. When it came to naming j.a.c & Honey, I wanted something meaningful to both me and the ladies who have been with me. And that’s a best practice I always recommend for anyone naming (or rebranding) their business.

Here are a few more tips to keep in mind when choosing a brand name:

  1. Make It Meaningful: Your name should resonate with your audience and connect to your story. It’s a bridge between your purpose and the people you’re here to serve.

  2. Think Long-Term: Choose a name that can grow with you. Avoid being overly specific or trendy—you want something timeless and flexible.

  3. Keep It Clear and Memorable: Simplicity is key. A name that’s easy to spell, say, and remember will go a long way in helping your audience connect with your brand.

  4. Check Availability: Do your due diligence. Make sure the domain name, social media handles, and trademarks are available to avoid conflicts down the line.

  5. Ask for Feedback: Share your ideas with trusted people in your circle. A fresh perspective can help you spot something you might have missed.

Choosing the right name isn’t easy, but it’s worth the time and thought to create something that truly reflects your vision and values.
